Credentials
Two Years as a Writing Tutor for the University of Maryland
I am proud to have worked as a tutor for The Writing Center at the University of Maryland for two years. Before getting hired, I had to complete an intensive 4-credit internship course. This course thoroughly explored research and scholarship regarding tutoring practices and trained tutors to be adept in any genre of writing. Thanks to this course, I maintain access to hundreds of university-sanctioned resources, and up-to-date information regarding the current climates for essay writing, citation requirements, and what colleges are looking for in applications.
The University of Maryland is renowned for its advanced academic programs, ample research opportunities, and rigorous academic standards, which earned it the title of “Public Ivy” from Forbes. The Writing Center at UMD is highly awarded and has been helping students access free writing help for research, essays, applications, grants, and more for over 40 years.
Standardized Testing Prep
While in high school, I managed to raise my own SAT score by 230 points over the course of a semester, and reported one of the highest scores my high school had ever seen. This attracted the attention of other parents and students in the area.
I took on several Standardized Testing clients and helped them raise their Reading and Writing scores by over 100 points on average. I help students to understand the nature of the test in addition to the material at hand.
Academic Accolades
My English major GPA was a perfect 4.0, and my cumulative GPA was 3.85– all on a +/- scale. My writing was praised by all my professors for its clarity and ingenuity. My major exposed me to nearly every form of writing imaginable, furthering my education on the topic.
After applying to the University of Maryland, they extended an offer for me to join their competitive Honors College. Through this two-program, I was exposed to more rigorous coursework and lecture content than other students on campus. In my final semester with the Honors College, I completed an extensive research project that accumulated into over 90 pages of writing, all while undergoing frequent review and workshops.
Thanks to high credit loads, hard work, and summer courses, I completed my degree in three years instead of four.
In high school, I maintained a perfect GPA and graduated Valedictorian of my class.
Standardized Testing Scores
My Standardized Testing scores in English and Reading were in the top 99th percentile. I took both the ACT and the SAT, so I am well versed in the minutiae of each test form. On the ACT, I scored perfectly in the Reading section and only missed one question on the English portion. My writing score of 9 was in the 90th percentile for that year, and my writing capabilities have only increased since then. (These tests were taken in 2021, a time when my education had been suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.)
